Volunteer Development Program: Courses; Course Registration; Training Plan for Volunteers |
Adult volunteers help girls grow strong in Girl Scouting. The Girl Scout motto is "Be Prepared" and training will help you guide and support girls in Girl Scouting. Previous Girl Scout experience is not necessary—we provide you with the information and resources needed to make volunteering with us an excellent experience. Girl Scout training is one of the many resources available to you as a volunteer. It helps you meet the growing needs of girls, today and tomorrow.
As a Girl Scout volunteer, you are the person who brings the Girl Scout Program to the girls in our Council. Whatever your role, you are important and vital. This section contains information about the training process and details about the courses available to help you gain skills and confidence to meet your volunteer responsibilities and to enrich your Girl Scout experience. Our volunteer trainers are eager to assist you. Come and join us for fun and learning!
There are two courses that are considered essential for all Girl Scout leaders. If you are a new leader, you should complete them at your earliest opportunity, and ideally within your first three (3) months.
Introduction to Girl Scouting at River Bluffs
Every troop/group must have at least one volunteer trained in Introduction to Girl Scouting at River Bluffs and Program Level. These two courses comprise the Basic Leadership Training. Leadership training courses are to be completed within three months of assuming active leadership. It is recommended that all volunteers that work with girls be trained leaders.
Facts About Training At River Bluffs Council:
Our training program is designed to help adult volunteers broaden their understanding of the philosophy, aims, and program of the Girl Scout Movement. In addition, volunteers will increase their knowledge and skill-base needed to perform their positions with competence and satisfaction.
River Bluffs’ Training Sessions:
are open to all adult volunteers and girls ages 12-17 who intend to work with younger girls. Benefit: You will get more ideas and network with volunteers from around the council.
Are the key to your success!

(T)raditional, (I)ndependent, (C) Compact
The Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council offers a variety of options for you to receive training. This system consists of the
Traditional Trainings, Independent Study Courses, and Compact Trainings.Traditional Trainings:
Traditional Trainings in a group/classroom setting with a trainer as the facilitator. Participants share ideas and receive information from other volunteers. This allows participants to engage in group discussion and feedback. The length of most traditional courses is three (3) hours.
Independent Study Courses:
The purpose of independent study courses is to provide individuals with the same basic information they would receive if they attended a classroom presentation. The independent study format does not provide individuals with the interaction and feedback they would experience during a classroom presentation. Individuals who choose to complete an
independent study course are urged to attend service unit meetings and other gatherings where they can benefit from the experiences and knowledge of other Girl Scout adult volunteers.
Some independent study courses are supplemented by a video. Videos can be obtained from the Training Coordinator in your service unit. Based on the resources available, participants should complete and submit the workbook to the Volunteer Development Director at the Girl Scout Service Center.
Compact Training Courses:
Compact courses are also done in a group setting. Have all of the benefits of a classroom training. Compact Training participants will receive a pre-training work packet that you MUST complete prior to attending the training. If the packet is not completed prior to the training, participants will not be allowed to stay. The length of this course is two (2) hours after completion of the pre-training work packet.
Compact trainings are
listed in the Training Calendar with a "C" next to their name. The deadline
to register for Compact Trainings is 14 days prior to the training session.![]()

Most
frequently asked first aid and CPR questions.........![]()
What is the difference between the Community First Aid Review and the full length First Aid/CPR Course?
The review course is available for participants who have previously taken the full length course and would like to renew their certifications. The review course consists of written and skills exams where participants can review the DVD and ask the instructor questions. During the full length course, participants have the opportunity to learn and practice all the skills.
Do I have to take the First Aid/ CPR Course through the Girl Scouts?
No, you can take the First Aid course through any of the agencies listed on the following page from Safety-Wise. Many service units also arrange First Aid/ CPR courses for the volunteers in their area. Check with Training Coordinator in your area to see if this option is available.
Why do the CPR/ First Aid courses fill so quickly?
Due to the nature of the course, there is a limited number of participants per instructor in order to provide effective hands on training, and immediate and specific feedback to all participants on the proper response in emergency situations.
Courses for First-Aid Training
