  • http://www.mypyramid.gov Check this site out for great information on nutrition and exercise.
  • The Lt. Governor’s office would like the Girl Scouts’ help in participating in their project "Walk Across Illinois"!

  • What it is: Participants create a user name and password on the website, then log whatever miles they walk. Each time a participant logs miles, they are treated to a segment of a virtual Illinois tour. When you complete your 167 miles (the "width" of the state from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan), you get a certificate, and your girls names are put on the website. 167 miles must be completed by August 2006.

  • Cost is Free!  Where: www.walkacrossillinois.org   Why: This is a great opportunity for girls to learn about healthy lifestyle choices, but also a fantastic project to complete together WHILE doing other activities! For instance, a nature hike counts, as does a trash pickup, game, or even house cleaning! Just keep track of how long you do an activity or how far you walk.

  • ZOOMSCI Online Training For Leaders  -  The PBS kids’ show, ZOOM, has created an online training for troop leaders who are interested in leading science activities with girls. During this easy-to-use 40-minute online tutorial, you can try an activity, watch videos that model how to lead activities, learn which ZOOM activities support badge requirements, and print helpful handouts and lesson plans. The training (which has been field-tested by fellow Girl Scout leaders) even includes access to a resource section rich with activities and materials to help girls explore science. To take the online training, go to: http://www.pbskids.org/zoom/grownups/scitraining
