Girl Leadership Program Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.) |
A Counselor In Training (C.I.T.) is available for any Girl Scout 15-17, who has completed the 10th grade or above, wants to work in a camp setting, and has completed the C.I.T. workshop. The C.I.T. project enables girls to better understand the Girl Scout practices and principles related to camping and outdoor education. The C.I.T. leadership project was developed to provide Girl Scouts 15-17 the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of working with younger girls in an outdoor setting. Becoming a C.I.T. also enables Girl Scouts 15-17 to gain insights into the responsibilities of managing a camp through direct involvement in daily administrative activities. Day Camp is an excellent way girls can complete the service hours required for this recognition.
Once the C.I.T. selects the age group/program level (Daisies, Brownies, or Juniors) with which she would like to work with, she must spend between 5-7 hours observing the girls in a camp setting. Once she has finished her observation, she must spend at least two weeks working with an experienced counselor in a day camp or one week working with a residential camp. (GSRBC does not currently have a resident camp. Call the service center to find out about opportunities to work with other council resident camps.)
The C.I.T. workshop is offered once a year in the spring. Information on this workshop and registration forms and located in the Edge.
