Girl Leadership Program

Leader-In-Training (L.I.T.)

A Leader in Training (L.I.T.) is a Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador who has completed the 9th grade or above, wants to work with girls in a troop/group setting, and who has completed the L.I.T. Workshop.  An L.I.T. will acquire the skills and confidence necessary to guide a group of younger girls and hold future leadership positions both inside and outside of Girl Scouting.  A L.I.T. works with a leader in a younger Girl Scout troop.

In the L.I.T. Workshop, girls will learn basic leadership skills, how to work with adults, how to work with different age levels, how to handle certain behavior situations, and conflict resolution.  At the end of the workshops, girls will then earn their L.I.T. Pin.

To earn the L.I.T. patch, a girl will select the age group/program level (Daisy, Brownie, or Junior) with which she would like to work with.  The girl must observe this age group for approximately 3-5 hours as they participate in their group.  The girl will then fill out the Troop/Group Observation Inventory.  The girl then needs to seek out a leader and troop in that same age level to work with.  It can be the same troop she has observed, but does not have to be.  An agreement is then made between the girl and adult leader.  The Adult Agreement Form must be signed by both the girl and the adult.  This form, along with the Troop/Group Observation form must be turned in to the Program Manager before the girl actually begins leadership service hours with the troop/group.  The girl then must work with the troop/group on an ongoing basis and commit at least 25 hours of leadership service.  These hours may be spread out over several months.

At the completion of the 25 leadership service hours, paperwork is required to be turned in to the Program Manager to receive the patch.  The paperwork includes: Girl Evaluation, Adult Evaluation, and Leadership Log Hours.  If a girl wishes to continue the L.I.T. experience, she can continue on as a Senior Girl Scout Troop Assistant (see S.G.S.T.A.).
