President's Volunteer Service Award Program
The purpose of the President's Volunteer Service Award program is to create a widespread, grassroots recognition system to encourage millions of Americans to participate in voluntary community service. The Awards were originated by former President George Bush in 1992 and expanded by President Bill Clinton. In May 2001, President George W. Bush added his
full support to PSSA.
Volunteers are encouraged to participate in service that addresses specific areas of need. The priority areas are: Youth achievement, Parks and open space, Healthy communities (including physical and economic health), & Public safety and emergency response.
