Hey, did you know that there is really cool art on every corner in Effingham? What a great day trip for your troop, an urban hike and art! If you have already earned the SOTA patch, the requirements could meet numerous other level badge or IP work. So put on your walking shoes and let’s go! Take this form with you and complete the activities. Requirements for Sculpture on the Avenue are:

Before you go:

1. Secure a brochure from the Effingham County Visitor Bureau. You can do this online or pick up a brochure from area merchants.

2. Plan your trip. Secure drivers, permission forms, and dress for the weather and walk. Don’t forget your camera!

3. Plan your hike. Using a street map, or online resources, plan your route.

When you’re there:

4. How many sculptures are permanent? ________________________________________________

What is the largest number of sculptures that have been on exhibit? ________________________

5. Who started the exhibits? __________________________________________________________

6. Find out about a local festival that centers on the exhibits. When is it? _______________________

7. As you walk around Effingham, take a good look at each sculpture. Use the following for conversation starters:

a. Colors used - bright, dull, exciting ______________________________________________

b. Materials used - durable, weather, rough, smooth__________________________________

c. What does the sculpture represent? ____________________________________________

d. Is the artist - well known or new ________________________________________________

8. Research other museums or historical facilities nearby. Will you include any in your day trip? ________________________________________________________________________________

10. Schedule a foot massage! Develop your photos and submit them for council publications, or scrapbook your "art inspired urban hike" around Effingham.
