Juliette Gordon Low, our founder and role model for Girl Scouting in the US died at the age of 66 from breast cancer in 1927. Technology and medical advancements sure have come a long way and on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, 22 girls learned that EARLY DETECTION is the most important thing a girl/woman can do!! Girls that attend the In the Pink program completed a variety of hands on activities that helped them complete requirements towards the In the Pink Interest Project. Activities included: the required activity of learning about the food pyramid healthy eating and exercise. Nicole Bryant, a 14 year cancer survivor, shared her touching story. As well as gave each girl a signed copy of her book, BREASTLESSNESS What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do. What a special gift! The girls also worked on Key of Life service project. This joint project between Girl Scouts and the American Cancer Society. Girls made key chains that provided education information about the different sizes of lumps that a woman could find. The key chains were donated to our local American Cancer Society for their annual Making Strides walk. |
