Membership Goals
Supporting Our Troops....Currently
on the email circuit is an email asking for cards for the recovering
soldiers at Walter Reed Army Hospital. According to their website, the
facility does not accept cards or packages addressed to any soldier. Since
our experience with 911, the military has deemed mail addressed to any
soldier as a risk. While having the girls make cards for the holiday
season, remember those locally in the Veteran’s Home, nursing homes, or
hospital. Contact your local veteran’s organization and see if they have a
list of service personnel that might enjoy some mail from home. Another
option is to distribute the cards to local food banks that may be able to
tuck them into the food baskets that are being distributed during the
holiday season.
Service Unit
and Troop Websites
Is your troop
developing a website? Are there plans for your service unit to develop a
site to keep the troop leadership informed? Do you already have a website
that has not been approved by the council? If you answered yes to any of
these questions, this information is for you. All websites affiliated with
Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council must be approved prior to activation.
Guidelines
provide troops and service units the needed information to develop a site
not only is informative but also meets national and council requirements.
Once your website is ready, forward the link to your site to Sheila Holm
at sholm@riverbluffs.org
for approval. Upon approval, a link to your site will be placed on the
council site. Not only will your site help your parents and girls but will
also be a resource to other troop leadership within the council.

Camp Tour Program
A BIG
Thank You to the following troops that helped make Haunted Camp
at Camp Wassatoga a huge success! Troops 2383, 2290, 2112, 2550, 2326 and
259 were so creative and enthusiastic! Because of you, the girls enjoyed a
wonderful and fun evening. We couldn’t have done it without you! If you
would like to be involved next year, check out the next issue of the Edge.
We’d love to have you!
Let’s
Go On A Bear Hunt!
A "beary" big "Thank You" to
Troop 2016 from Edgar County for their help with the
Bear Hunt program. All the Girl
Scouts in attendance had fun stuffing and naming their bears. Honey and
Fluffy were the most popular names! It was a bit chilly and windy at Camp
Wassatoga, but the sun was shining and it was a beautiful fall day for a
Bear Hunt.

Congratulations! Gillian B., a 5th grader from troop #235 in
Edwardsville, was selected by the Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council as
our local honoree for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. This award
recognizes outstanding community service by young Americans. Gillian has
served her community by volunteering in several positions within her
church. She belongs to the Kidz Choir, the Kidz at Nite and the
Neighborhood, and is a leader of the Kidz Praise team. She also has
volunteered for food drives, shoe drives, and Operation Christmas Child.
Most recently, Gillian has participated in her church’s annual "Judgment
Day" production. Through volunteering, Gillian has learned that it takes
more than one person to get a job done and that a smile and a great
attitude can go a long way. Her application will now be eligible for the
State Honoree Award, where one applicant is picked from each state and
that applicant will receive $1000, a beautiful silver medallion and an
all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. in May 2008 as well as being
eligible to be named America’s top youth volunteer. The Girls Scouts of
River Bluffs Council is very proud to have Gillian as a Girl Scout and we
wish her the best of luck!
