Independent Study

The purpose of independent study courses is to provide leadership with the same information they would receive if they attended a classroom presentation.

The independent study format does not provide leadership with the interaction and feedback they would experience during a classroom presentation. Leadership who choose to complete an independent study course are urged to attend service unit meetings and other gatherings where they can benefit from the experiences and knowledge of other Girl Scout adult volunteers.

Some independent study courses are supplemented by a video. DVD/Videos can be obtained from the Training Coordinator in your service unit. Participants should complete and submit the workbook to their training coordinator.

Happy Retirement

Please join us in wishing Anne Perry (Fairview Heights/Caseyville) a happy retirement as a council trainer. Anne Perry has shared  her love of Girl Scouting with volunteers for many years. Anne will continue to serve as a

volunteer training coordinator in her service unit.

We wish her well.

If you are a certified First Aid/CPR trainer with one of the service providers (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Health and Safety Institute or one of the agencies on page 37 of Safety-Wise) and would like to teach emergency and life saving skills. WE NEED YOU!

Would You Like to Be a Council Trainer?

Do you enjoy sharing your Girl Scout experience with others? Remember how it felt to be brand new and wonder if Girl Scouts was for you? Do you get excited each fall to begin Girl Scouting again? Would you like to improve and develop your professional presentation skills?

If you answered yes, becoming a Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Trainer may be an opportunity you would enjoy. Trainers are those wonderful volunteers who give our new leaders the tools to

become successful and share the joy that comes from helping a shy little girl become a strong and confident young woman.

As a volunteer organization, we are always in need of trainers to help provide the most accurate information to our new leaders. If you enjoy working with adults and love Girl Scouting, this is a great way to volunteer. Trainers are needed in all areas of the council jurisdiction to bring training closer to our volunteers.

Trainers are adults who:

All trainers must complete a trainer application, an interview with the Volunteer Development Staff, attend a Train-the-Trainer course (which is a course on how adults learn, how to make presentations and our training curriculums) and complete post-course work requirements.

If you are interested in becoming a council trainer, please contact: Daketta Marshburn at 618-692-0692 / 1-800-345-6858 ext. 142 or dmarshburn@riverbluffs.org - Volunteers in eastern counties may contact: Donna Polky, ext. 115 or dpolky@riverbluffs.org
