River Bluffs Council Presents. . . .

Troop Spotlight:

Service Unit (207) Belleville/Swansea

Brownie Troop #645 Westhaven School

Jodi Hall, Leader

What makes troop 645 a little different than most? These girls are busy all summer long! Jodi Hall of Belleville leads this wonderful group of Brownies (and plans to also have a Daisy AND a Junior troop in the fall!) and keeps them learning, exploring and enjoying one another all summer long. Just a few things that the girls have done in the past few months include Girl Scout Night with the Grizzlies, Swimming Pool, seeing High School Musical, an Overnight Camp-Out, Six Flags and a Recycling Center Tour. They also have worked on the requirements for the council's own Meet Me in St. Louis Try-It!

These girls are not just busy in the summer. During the past membership year they saw Disney on Ice-Princess Wishes, went to the East Belleville troop sponsored Hawaiian Luau, horseback riding, roller skating, as well as making 100 Easter baskets for Cathedral Church!

So, if you think girls and parents need the summer off from Girl Scouting think again – troop 645 shows that Girl Scouting

doesn’t have a season. The best part? Jodi even took additional girls from our D.I.G.S. program, a council-sponsored outreach program. Thanks to troop 645 for being a great example of Girl Scouting year-round and thanks to Jodi for being a phenomenal leader!

Volunteer Spotlight:

Cynthia Judge, Service Unit (202)

New Baden Brownie Troop #808

What makes Cynthia Judge such a unique leader? Well, to start she has been involved in Girl Scouting for 20 years! Cynthia’s days in Girl Scouting started as a Daisy. Her mom prompted her to join to make new friends. Over the years Cynthia accomplished much more than making those lifelong friends – she went on to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award and the Outstanding Graduating Senior Girl Scout Scholarship.

Her involvement in the organization did not stop there. Cynthia became a troop leader and now has 1st and 2nd grade Brownies. What is her favorite part of being a leader? Cynthia says, "I like to teach the girls new things and see them get excited about a project or an activity." Not only does she

volunteer as a leader, Cynthia is the Troop Organizer/ Consultant for New Baden in Service Unit 202. As a girl, Cynthia was involved in Girl Scouting at Scott Air Force Base, then lived in Germany for 4 years before moving back to the area. Her energy and passion for Girl Scouting really shows through and it is an asset having more involved in the Service Unit. Cynthia is a great role model for girls - completing 13 years as a girl and now volunteering as a leader.

Cynthia’s advice to new leaders is to have fun! She reminds leaders that this is the time to be a kid again so be silly and get dirty! Thanks, Cynthia for a job well done!
