Service Unit Pilot Program

Effective immediately, six service units in our council will be participating in a pilot program that consists of two full time staff members working with existing Service Teams to run each of these Service Units. This pilot program was designed to address the high number of vacant Service Unit Manager positions and the increased turnover in this position. We recognize that most volunteers do not have the time to devote to such a large position and the responsibilities of a Service Unit Manager were becoming too much for one individual to handle. We also wanted to offer a structure in which volunteers would still run the inner-workings of a Service Unit while having direct support and availability of resources from the council staff. It is our intention to offer as much support from our end as possible while allowing the Service Team to drive everything that happens within the Service Unit.

The Service Teams and Service Unit as a whole will operate in the same manner as in the past. There will be no visible differences other than a staff member serving the capacity of the Service Unit Manager. Things such as Service Unit checking accounts and Service Unit events will be under the supervision of the volunteers. While we hope this service unit model proves to be successful, it is important to remember that it is a pilot program. Decisions about the year following and the status of the pilot will be determined after evaluation and input from volunteers. If there are any questions regarding the program please feel free to contact Lacey Sonderegger at (618) 692.0692, ext. 102.

The Service Units that will be involved in the pilot program are:

101 - Alton/Godfrey

105 - Jersey/Calhoun County

110 - Highland

111 - Collinsville/Maryville

202 - Trenton, Lebanon, Mascoutah, New Baden

207 - Belleville/Swansea (formerly 206 and 207)
