Get Up &
Go!
A health and fitness challenge for communities, groups and organizations of St. Clair County, IL
Attention Girl Scout Troops!
If you’re looking for a way to encourage a lifestyle of health and fitness among your Girl Scouts and within your community, why not consider becoming a part of a county-wide health & fitness challenge during the month of April 2008?
The campaign is known as "Get Up & Go" because that’s exactly what we want you to do! Get up…and do something healthy! But not just you; we want you to bring your entire troop along; or your family, your neighborhood, your school, your church group…you get the idea. How about challenging a nearby troop in a friendly competition to see which troop can walk the farthest between April 1st and April 30th?
The campaign is sponsored by the St. Clair County Health Care Commission and the Willard C. Scrivner, MD Public Health Foundation. The goal is to encourage and recognize at least 100 communities, groups and organizations in St. Clair County to motivate its members to participate in activities that improve health and fitness.
A website has been developed to help provide some suggestions or you can come up with your own activity. You can even help communities or organizations prepare for their "Get Up & Go" activities through service projects like orienting and preparing a walking trail or making informational signs. What a great way to learn new skills, earn activity badges, or "Try-Its" while helping the community at the same time!
It’s really up to you, but if you think you’re up to the challenge; contact the St. Clair County Health Department at 233-7703, or visit their website at www.getupgo.info for more information. Share your success and help connect our communities together for health.
