Girl Scout Mission

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:

To serve God and my country;

To help people at all times;

And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be

   honest and fair,

   friendly and helpful,

   considerate and caring,

   courageous and strong, and

   responsible for what I say and do,

and to

   respect myself and others,

   respect authority,

   use resources wisely,

   make the world a better place, and

   be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girl Scout Program Goals:

The four Girl Scout program goals outline the basic outcomes for a girl participating in Girl Scouts. Each specifies how girls will grow and develop through their Girl Scout experience. Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council strives to provide a framework for addressing these goals. These four fundamental program goals encourage girls to:

  1. Develop to their full potential.

  2. Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect.

  3. Develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making.

  4. Contribute to the improvement of society.

A Big Congratulations!  Gillian Burroughs, a 5th grader from troop #235 in Edwardsville, was selected by the Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council as our local honoree for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. This award recognizes outstanding community service by young Americans. Gillian has served her community by volunteering in several positions within her church. She belongs to the Kidz Choir, the Kidz at Nite and the Neighbor-

hood, and is a leader of the Kidz Praise team. She also has volunteered for food drives, shoe drives, and Operation Christmas Child. Most recently, Gillian has participated in her church’s annual "Judgment Day" production. Through volunteering, Gillian has learned that it takes more than one person to get a job done and that a smile and a great attitude can go a long way.

Her application will now be eligible for the State Honoree Award, where one applicant is picked from each state and that applicant will receive $1000, a beautiful silver medallion and an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. in May 2008 as well as being eligible to be named America’s top youth volunteer. The Girls Scouts of River Bluffs Council is very proud to have Gillian as a Girl Scout and we wish her the best of luck!

WOW! Vanessa & Angela Simmons, daughters of musician Rev Run and stars of MTV’s reality series Run’s House, have signed on to become spokespeople for the entrepreneurship and financial literacy programs at Girl Scouts! This partnership focuses on promoting our leadership experience for girls. As part of Vanessa & Angela’s contribution, they have made a short DVD presentation where they talk about their entrepreneurial success in the fashion industry. By sharing their business experiences, Vanessa and Angela are hoping that Girl Scouts nationwide will be inspired to use their business skills during cookie sales, earning money for their troop, or even inspiring girls to start their own business one day. This DVD will be available in the resource library for check out soon!
