 General Information

The Edge has a new look! In order to use less paper, save trees, and help the environment, we have gone to one general registration form that will be used for all events and trainings (unless otherwise stated). You will notice that we have two general forms; one for troop registrations and one for individual registrations. Please use the one that pertains to how you are registering. You may find options on the registration form that do not pertain to the event/training for which you are registering. If that is the case, just leave that section(s) blank. We have also added an "Additional Information" section. Please read the program descriptions carefully to see if there is any additional information that you need to provide. If you have any questions about registration, please call (618) 692-0692 / (800) 345-6858.

Discover, Connect, Take Action - The New Emerging

Program Model - The emerging program model follows

a girl-centric approach and organizes girls’ achievements into three broad categories—Girls Discover, Girls Connect, and Girls Take Action.

Leadership will be the objective where discovery and taking action intersect—it’s the bridge between what you "get" in Girl Scouting through discovery, and what you "give" back by taking action. Above all, the new program will focus on you gaining leadership skills through activities that match what you say you want: "to belong and to have fun."

It’s Not What, but HOW
The new model integrates specific educational theories and methods (the HOWs) to create a framework for you-the girl to create your own experiences, reflect on them, and apply what you have learned to new challenges. This learning cycle gives you the opportunity to continue on the journey to discover, lead and take action. More important than what you are doing and what awards you achieve, is how you are doing it.

Are you a Space Cadette? How about a Stellar Senior?

Come join Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council’s newly forming Astronomy Club! Our kickoff meeting will be held in March. Girls attending the Owl Prowl in February will have the first glimpse of upcoming star programs. We will meet once a month to do some star gazing and look at the cool technology that is out there to help everybody learn more about space. Be prepared to be blown away by the Orion nebula or captivated by the craters on the Moon. Learn and share what you know with your fellow Girl Scouts! Add star gazing to your Program Aide repertoire! For more information, contact Emily Stanley,

Outdoor Program Manager at 692-0692 ext 111 (800-345-6858) or estanley@riverbluffs.org

Vanessa and Angela Simmons, daughters of musician Rev Run and stars of MTV’s reality series Run’s House, have signed on to become spokes-people for the entrepreneurship and financial literacy programs at Girl Scouts! This partnership focuses on promoting our leadership experience for girls. As part of Vanessa & Angela’s contribution, they have made a short DVD presentation where they talk about their entrepreneurial success in the fashion industry. By sharing their business experiences, Vanessa and Angela are hoping that Girl Scouts nationwide will be inspired to use their business skills during cookie sales, earning money for their troop, or even inspiring girls to start their own business one day. This DVD will be available in the resource library to check out soon!
