Guidelines for Troop and Service Unit Websites
To ensure the safety of girls, every Girl Scout website or webpage must follow specific guidelines designed by GSUSA and Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council. The guidelines are as follows:
1. All troop and service unit sites/pages must be registered with GSRBC to ensure that the
guidelines are being met.
2. Use only FIRST names of girls or any person named on your site.
3. Never post addresses, schools, phone number, or email addresses of girls.
4. Do not list addresses of group meeting places or dates and times of meetings, events or troops.
5. Always obtain written parental permission for all pictures of girls used on your website. (This is
included on the membership registration form.)
6. Website should be kept simple and consistent.
7. Website should be designed for ease of navigation.
8. Images should remain under 30K to minimize load time. Load time for pages should be under
10 seconds.
9. Girl Scout logos and trademarks cannot be used as background images or watermarks.
10. No GSUSA official insignia should be on the website without prior approval.
11. When using official Girl Scout logos, service marks, words and phrases, note the SM (service mark)]

12. Chat rooms are not allowed on troop and service unit sites in our council area.
13. If using message boards, use first names only, same rules as above. The message board must
be monitored at all times and updated frequently by the author of the site or page.
14. The council will put a link to your site or page on the council website, once the site has been
registered with the council.
15. All the girls in the troop should complete the "Online Safety Pledge" found on page 130 in
Safety-Wise or on River Bluffs Council website (Internet Safety Pledge).
16. Follow all guidelines listed in Safety-Wise on pages 128-129.
